Greener and more tranquil than its neighbours, Majorca and Ibiza, the coastline of Menorca varies from rugged cliffs to the breathtaking horseshoe bay of Cala Galdana. Broad stretches of sandy beach can be found in a selection of resorts the longest beach being in Son Bou. In the capital Mahon you will find elegant Georgian buildings overlooking the natural harbour and a gin distillery where you can sample the local tipple of Pomada. In the west of the island is the former capital Ciudadela, with its street cafes and harbour restaurants. If you visit Menorca in late June be sure to see the San Juan fiesta in Ciudadela where horses are ridden through the narrow streets. |
